Montoro, Wednesday, May 15, 2018

The XIX Feria del Olivo de Montoro, which takes place from May 16 to 19, welcomes again the Pago las Monjas olive mill, the best in Spain as recently recognized by the Spanish Association of Olive Municipalities, AEMO.

The family-run company from Montoro began its journey as manufacturers and packagers in 2016, and since then they have not stopped reaping successes, among them, positioning themselves in the 14th place in the ranking of the best Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the world with ‘Nevadillo Negro’, according to the Top100 of the prestigious Evooleum Guide in the last campaign.

`Nevadillo Negro’ is a variety of olive native to the Montoro mountain range, very little valued and used for oil production. It was José Manuel and his brother Javier who have bet big on this variety and its positive health attributes, and to their surprise they got one of the best oils in the world, as recognized by this Evooleum Guide in its Top100 Adwards in both 2017 and 2018.

Pago Las Monjas is located in a place in the Sierra de Montoro called Finca Las Monjas, a historic place, dating back to 1754, which already had one of the most important oil mills in Spain at that time. A place where only by entering its 65 hectares of olive groves, we can feel the milling tradition.
